Jason Mitchell 74d08d69b2 drivers: serial: cmsdk_apb: fix irq_rx_ready deviation
The docstring for uart_cmsdk_apb_irq_rx_ready says "@return 1 if an
interrupt is ready, 0 otherwise" but the function actually returns 2 on
success. This commit fixes this to conform with serial driver API.

Gerard Marull-Paretas a202341958 devices: constify device pointers initialized at compile time
Many device pointers are initialized at compile and never changed. This
means that the device pointer can be constified (immutable).

Gerard Marull-Paretas 8e26bfcca2 drivers: serial: cmsdk_apb: drop usage of uart_device_config
Create a driver specific configuration structure, containing the
required fields only. Since the config struct can now store a pointer to
the UART structure, casts from (uint8_t *) to (struct uart_cmsdk_apb*)
are no longer needed. UART_STRUCT has also been dropped in favor of
using the config pointer directly now that it is possible.

Maureen Helm ad1450510a drivers: serial: Refactor drivers to use shared init priority Kconfig
Refactors all of the serial drivers to use a shared driver class
initialization priority configuration, CONFIG_SERIAL_INIT_PRIORITY, to
allow configuring serial drivers separately from other devices. This is
similar to other driver classes like I2C and SPI.

The default is set to CONFIG_KERNEL_INIT_PRIORITY_DEVICE to preserve the
existing default initialization priority for most drivers. The one
exception is uart_lpc11u6x.c which previously used
CONFIG_KERNEL_INIT_PRIORITY_OBJECTS.

This change was motivated by an issue on the frdm_k64f board where the
serial driver was incorrectly initialized before the clock control
driver.

Gustavo Romero 5f40b5d4f9 drivers: uart: uart_cmsdk_apb: Fix uart_irq_is_pending
Currently CMSDK uart_irq_is_pending does not use RX and TX interrupt
bits found in INTSTATUS register to check for pending interrutps but
rather it checks for pending interrupts indirectly by checking if RX and
TX buffers are, respectively, full and empty, i.e. it checks bits 0 and
1 in STATE register instead of bits meant for interrupt status found in
INTSTATUS register.

That is particularly problematic because although a RX interrupt implies
a RX buffer full and a TX interrupt implies a TX buffer empty, the
converse is not true. For instance, a TX buffer might be empty for all
data was processed (sent to serial line) already and no further data was
pushed into TX buffer so it remained empty, without generating any
additional TX interrupt. In that case the current uart_irq_is_pending
implementation reports that there are pending interrupts because of the
following logic:

which will return 1 (true) if STATE[0] = 0 (TX buffer is empty), since
UART_TX_BF = 1, so STATE[0] != UART_TX_BF, which is true (assuming here
for the sake of simplicity that UART_RX_BF = 0, i.e. RX buffer is empty
too).

One of the common uses of uart_irq_is_pending is in ISR in contructs
like the following:

So the ISR can be called due to a RX interrupt. Upon finishing
processing the RX data uart_irq_is_pending is called to check for any
pending IRQs and if it happens that TX buffer is empty (like in the case
that TX interrupt is totally disabled) execution gets stuck in the while
loop because TX buffer will never transition to full again, i.e. it will
never have a chance to have STATE[0] = 1, so STATE[0] != UART_TX_BF is
always true.

This commit fixes that undesirable and problematic behavior by making
uart_irq_is_pending use the proper bits in the interrupt status register
(INTSTATUS) to determine if there is indeed any pending interrupts.

That, on the other hand, requires that the pending interrupt flags are
not clearly automatically when calling the ISR, otherwise
uart_irq_is_pending() will return immediatly false on the first call
without any data being really processed inside the ISR. Thus, because
both RX and TX buffer (FIFO) are only 1 byte long, that commit clears
the proper interrupts flags precisely when data is processed (fifo_read
and fifo_fill) or when the interrupts are disabled (irq_rx_disable and
irq_tx_disable).

Finally, that commits also takes the chance to update some comments,
specially regarding the need to "prime" when enabling the TX interrupts
(in uart_cmsdk_apb_irq_tx_enable()). The need to "prime" can be verified
in the CMSDK UART reference implementation in Verilog mentioned in the
"Arm Cortex-M System Design Kit" [0], on p. 4-8, section 4.3,
in cmsdk_apb_uart.v. In that implementation it's also possible to verify
that the FIFO is only 1 byte long, justifying the semantics that if
buffers are not full (STATE[0] or STATE[1] = 0) they are _completly_
empty, holding no data at all.

Kumar Gala b063fe2a06 drivers: uart: uart_cmsdk_apb: fix interrupt handling
The CMSDK uart interrupts for TX and RX can either be treated as a
signel interrupt line or distinct interrupts for TX & RX.  In the case
that they were distinct we didn't get the ifdef correct based on DTS.

If we have 2 interrupts in DTS we assume they are for TX & RX and thus
build the interrupt support for distinct TX & RX ISRs.

Also, cleanup handling of UART_2..UART_4 to be similar to how
UART_0/UART_1 code is using DT_INST_IRQN(x).

The goal of this patch is to replace the 'void *' parameter by 'struct
device *' if they use such variable or just 'const void *' on all
relevant ISRs

This will avoid not-so-nice const qualifier tweaks when device instances
will be constant.

Martí Bolívar 6e8775ff84 devicetree: remove DT_HAS_NODE_STATUS_OKAY
Several reviewers agreed that DT_HAS_NODE_STATUS_OKAY(...) was an
undesirable API for the following reasons:

- it's inconsistent with the rest of the DT_NODE_HAS_FOO names
- DT_NODE_HAS_FOO_BAR_BAZ(node) was agreed upon as a shorthand
  for macros which are equivalent to
  DT_NODE_HAS_FOO(node) && DT_NODE_HAS_BAR(node) &&
- DT_NODE_HAS_BAZ(node), and DT_HAS_NODE_STATUS_OKAY is an odd duck
- DT_NODE_HAS_STATUS(..., okay) was viewed as more readable anyway
- it is seen as a somewhat aesthetically challenged name

Replace all users with DT_NODE_HAS_STATUS(..., okay), which is
semantically equivalent.

This is mostly done with sed, but a few remaining cases were done by
hand, along with whitespace, docs, and comment changes. These special
cases include the Nordic SOC static assert files.

Martí Bolívar 87e1743ae0 devicetree: replace DT_HAS_DRV_INST with DT_INST_FOREACH
Make drivers multi-instance wherever possible using DT_INST_FOREACH.
This allows removing DT_HAS_DRV_INST in favor of making drivers just
do the right thing regardless of how many instances there are.

There are a few exceptions:

- SoC drivers which use CMake input files (like i2c_dw.c) or otherwise
  would require more time to convert than I have at the moment. For the
  sake of expediency, just inline the DT_HAS_DRV_INST expansion for
  now in these cases.

- SoC drivers which are explicitly single-instance (like the nRF SAADC
  driver). Again for the sake of expediency, drop a BUILD_ASSERT in
  those cases to make sure the assumption that all supported SoCs have
  at most one available instance is valid, failing fast otherwise.

Kumar Gala 4e7863dc41 dts: Make instance defines consistent
We generated a define for each instance to convey its existance of the
form:
	#define DT_<COMPAT>_<INSTANCE> 1

However we renamed all other instance defines to be of the form
DT_INST_<INSTANCE>_<FOO>.  To make things consistent we now generate a
define of the form:

	#define DT_INST_<INSTANCE>_<COMPAT> 1

We also now deprecate the DT_<COMPAT>_<INSTANCE> form and fixup all uses
to use the new form.

Paul Sokolovsky 45b1d73164 drivers: serial: uart_cmsdk_apb: Ack IRQs before callback to avoid races
This effectively reverts part of earlier 49bb163756 which moved
interrupt acknowledgement until after return from the user callback.
This was done confusing the flow of this driver with how some other
drivers do it, where pending interrupt status is checked by
uart_irq_rx_ready()/uart_irq_tx_ready(), which should be called by
the callback. But the uart_cmsdk_apb driver actually uses different
hardware register in these functions. And acking IRQs after user
callback can lead to race condition and losing an IRQ, and the
simple fix in this case is just move acknowledgement to where it
was before.

Paul Sokolovsky 49bb163756 drivers: serial: uart_cmsdk_apb: Fix interrupt-driven operation
1. There's an expectations that TX ready (i.e. TX buffer space
available) interrupt is a level interrupt, i.e. always active
while there's TX buffer space available. In particular, there's
an expectation that after uart_irq_tx_enable(), the TX interrupt
will immediately fire (assuming free TX buffer space is available).
But CMSDK UART interrupt appears to be edge interrupt, firing only
on buffer state change. So, after irq_tx_enable(), we need to
"bootstrap" interrupt processing by calling user-defined ISR
manually (the ISR will see that TX ready to accept a new char,
will write it there, then we'll get interrupt once TX buffer is
ready again).

2. Interrupts should be acknowledges only after user ISR is called,
because the ISR will check the status of interrupts.

3. Update stale comments.

1. Read the contents of all dts_fixup.h files in Zephyr
2. Check the left-hand side of the #define macros (i.e. the X in
   #define X Y)
3. Check if that name is also the name of a Kconfig option
   3.a If it is, then do nothing
   3.b If it is not, then replace CONFIG_ with DT_ or add DT_ if it
       has neither of these two prefixes
4. Replace the use of the changed #define in the code itself
   (.c, .h, .ld)

Additionally, some tweaks had to be added to this script to catch some
of the macros used in the code in a parameterized form, e.g.:
- CONFIG_GPIO_STM32_GPIO##__SUFFIX##_BASE_ADDRESS
- CONFIG_UART_##idx##_TX_PIN
- I2C_SBCON_##_num##_BASE_ADDR
and to prevent adding DT_ prefix to the following symbols:
- FLASH_START
- FLASH_SIZE
- SRAM_START
- SRAM_SIZE
- _ROM_ADDR
- _ROM_SIZE
- _RAM_ADDR
- _RAM_SIZE
which are surprisingly also defined in some dts_fixup.h files.

Finally, some manual corrections had to be done as well:
- name##_IRQ -> DT_##name##_IRQ in uart_stm32.c

Paul Sokolovsky 57286afdd6 drivers: uart: Allow to pass arbitrary user data to irq callback
Zephyr UART drivers offer very low-level functionality. Oftentimes,
it would be useful to provide higher-level wrappers around UART
device which would offer additional functionality. However, UART
driver irq callback routine receives just a pointer to (low-level)
UART device, and it's not possible to get to a wrapper structure
(without introducing expensive external mapping structures). This
is an indirect reason why the current UARt wrappers - uart_pipe,
console - are instantiated statically just for one underlying UART
device and cannot be reused for multiple devices.

Solve this by allowing to pass an arbitrary user data to irq
callback, set by new uart_irq_callback_user_data_set() function.
Existing uart_irq_callback_set() keeps setting a callback which
will receive pointer to the device.

While public API maintains compatibility, drivers themselves need
to be updated to support arbitrary user data storage/passing (as
legacy uart_irq_callback_set() functionality is now implemented in
terms of it).

Paul Sokolovsky 0fdc9b5b12 drivers: serial: Clarify usage of TX/RX IRQ predicates.
uart_irq_tx_empty() function proved to be problematic: its semantics
was not documented properly, and many hardware uses terminology like
"TX register empty" to signify condition of TX register being ready
to accept another character (what in Zephyr is tested with
uart_irq_tx_ready()). To avoid confusion, uart_irq_tx_empty() was
renamed to uart_irq_tx_complete(), propagating to drivers/serial
device methods.

The semantics and usage model of all of uart_irq_rx_ready(),
uart_irq_tx_ready(), uart_irq_tx_complete() is now described in
detail.

David B. Kinder ac74d8b652 license: Replace Apache boilerplate with SPDX tag
Replace the existing Apache 2.0 boilerplate header with an SPDX tag
throughout the zephyr code tree. This patch was generated via a
script run over the master branch.

Also updated doc/porting/application.rst that had a dependency on
line numbers in a literal include.

Manually updated subsys/logging/sys_log.c that had a malformed
header in the original file.  Also cleanup several cases that already
had a SPDX tag and we either got a duplicate or missed updating.

Vincenzo Frascino bb1818a535 serial: Add driver for CMSDK (Cortex-M System Design Kit) APB UART
Add driver for CMSDK APB UART ports. The driver implements RX and TX
functionalities. Data transmission is implemented using polling and
interrupts. The driver default configuration for the port is to use
8bit data transmission, 1 stop bit, no parity control.

The driver exposes a public uart driver API and allows to register up
to five UART devices: from 'UART_0' to 'UART_4'. The driver performs
the required pinmux, the clock control configuration is left to the
platform.

The driver has been verified to work with the Hello World sample
application on a Beetle Board.
